With his trio of long balls, Smith became just the second Diamondback to accomplish the feat this season, joining Eugenio Suárez, who hit three homers against the Washington Nationals on July 30. The franchise record for home runs in a single game still belongs to J.D. Martinez, who blasted four against the Los Angeles Dodgers on September 4, 2017.

“It’s something that not many people have done, and I figure if you have the chance you might as well go for it,” Smith said of his attempt to hit a fourth home run, which ultimately ended in a strikeout and a walk in his final two plate appearances.
